In today’s tight economy, every opportunity for cost savings counts. Pinching back on extraneous expenses and cutting out certain luxuries are common ways for families to stay within shrinking budgets. In many cases, though, the best way to save may be sitting right at home.
For most Americans, houses and apartments are major energy drains. Inefficient use of energy and water is not only bad for the environment, but also adds up over time. Simple fixes like swapping standard toilets for low-flush models or installing high-efficiency light bulbs can save hundreds if not thousands of dollars over the course of a year. More invasive building modifications, like installing efficient air flow systems and self-generated power sources like solar panel, can do even more. Homeowners and developers are increasingly looking to environmental experts to build sustainable, cost-saving structures.
