Unemployment For Younger Workers Hits Lowest Point Since January 2009

In the wake of the Great Recession, younger workers have had a significant amount of trouble entering the labor force, with unemployment for workers aged 25-34 hitting 10.5 percent back in May. The Cost of Going Solar Is Dropping Fast

The price of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems dropped by 36 percent in North Carolina between 2006 and 2011, from $8.50 to $5.44 per watt. All the while, fossil fuel costs jumped three percent on average in the state every year of the past decade, the report found.

The national average for solar was $6.20 per watt in 2010, according to the most recent available data.
The findings in North Carolina give solar advocates a solid basis to draw conclusions about the entire industry, Monique Hanis, a spokesperson for the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), a national trade group, told InsideClimate News. The report "reflects what's happening nationally, and in fact globally, in the solar energy market," she said.

Champions of Change: Giving Has Come "Full Circle": Actioning Emergency Food Assistance at U of A

“Never doubt that a small group of dedicated citizens can change the world, in fact it’s the only thing that ever has.”  - Margaret Mead. Two years ago, a group of students (the Volunteer Action Center) at the University of Arkansas started talking about the issue of food insecurity and how it affected students on the UA campus. One year ago, after months of planning, Full Circle Campus Food Pantry celebrated its grand opening. And now, being recognized by the White House’s Campus Champions of Change initiative is truly a testament that a small group of dedicated people really can make an impact.

Full Circle is an emergency food assistance program at the University of Arkansas that was established to address the needs of students and staff facing food insecurity while providing on campus service opportunities for students. Each request for assistance is met with a three day supply of food.
