As we ring in the New Year, we also want to take a minute to reflect on the progress we made in 2011. I’m proud to say that we had a very productive year for protecting the health of all Americans, especially those who are least able to help themselves. From strengthening Medicare to expanding access to preventive services to holding insurance companies accountable – young adults, families, and seniors have begun to see benefits from the health care law that took effect in 2010.Here are eight important ways that you or your family might have benefited from the health law in 2011:
Obama has Nearly Quadrupled Renewable Energy on Public Lands

All the renewable energy ever permitted on public lands totaled 1,800 MW by the end of 2008. In the last two years, the Department of the Interior has approved 6,600 MW of new projects.
Rapid and responsible fast track utility-scale production of clean energy is a solution to the climate destabilization caused by continuing the reliance on fossil energy.
These approvals for 25 utility-scale renewable energy projects on public lands are enough to power 2.3 million out of the 102 million American households. Not all the renewable projects are on public land.
A Resurgent America on Display at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show

The Detroit Auto Show always offers an impressive display of innovation. But, when I attended in 2010, the atmosphere was subdued. A palpable cloud of economic uncertainty hung over the auto industry then. This year, however, the show has a different buzz. Today when I toured the exhibits, people were gathered not only to see the latest prototypes, but to celebrate the resurgence of the American auto industry.
The Motor City is back in business. And for that I am happy to extend my gratitude and my congratulations to President Obama.
