Chrysler is expected to say Thursday it will make additional investments and hire workers at its Mack I Engine Plant in Detroit as the automaker boosts production at its North American factories.
Chrysler has added about 7,000 workers at plants in the U.S. and Canada since its Chapter 11 bankruptcy exit in June 2009. That includes 1,100 new workers who started producing Jeep Grand Cherokees at Detroit's Jefferson North Assembly Plant this month. Chrysler also plans to add 1,105 workers next year in Toledo to build the small SUV that will replace the Jeep Liberty.
Chrysler's U.S. sales have increased for 31 consecutive months. Through October, Chrysler's market share has increased to 11.5% from 10.7% a year earlier.
