I am a Strong Woman for Obama :: OFA South Carolina

By Kaye M. of Greenville, S.C.
I am a person with many past lives. For 25 years, I was a textile designer in New York City. Then my husband moved me south and I ran a horse farm and showed dogs. When my husband passed away, I moved back to the New York area and opened a store in Tribeca. Six months later, 9/11 happened and the area became a ghost town. I closed my business and came back to Greenville, S.C. and attended Greenville Technical College to get my certification as a Veterinary Assistant and Groomer. I worked for many years and have just recently retired.

I heard Barack Obama speak at the 2004 Democratic National Convention and said to myself, if that man ever runs for office, I am going to commit myself to him. I was overwhelmed with his message, strength, intelligence, and most of all his compassion for the state of our country. I believed he would save this nation, and despite those working against him in Congress, he has done so much to get our country out of the Bush abyss and back on track toward progress and stability.

Teaching veterans to meditate

LOS ANGELES (AP) — David Lynch wants soldiers and veterans to experience the stress-reducing benefits of Transcendental Meditation.

Lynch's namesake foundation is giving $1 million in grants to teach the meditation technique to active-duty military personnel and veterans and their families suffering from post-traumatic stress.

The filmmaker said Friday that the grants are from the Operation Warrior Wellness division of his foundation, which funds meditation instruction for various populations, including inner-city students and jail inmates.

The Department reached this major milestone as part of its efforts to save energy and reduce home utility bills for families, while creating jobs in communities throughout the country.

CDC: Health reform extends coverage to young Americans

Atlanta (CNN) -- About 2.5 million young people have received health insurance coverage as a result of health care reform measures that President Barack Obama signed into law last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Wednesday.

The Obama administration trumpeted the figure as a sign that the legislation is succeeding.
About 2.5 million more people, aged 19 to 25, have health insurance than had it before the law took effect because of a provision that lets young adults remain on their parents' insurance plans through age 26, the agency's National Center for Health Statistics said.
"Moms and dads around the country can breathe a little easier knowing their children are covered," Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said in a statement.
