Meeting the President :: Matt an OFA Volunteer from CA

My name is Matthew, I am nineteen years old, and I met President Obama.

When Peggy, the California Political Director asked me to help with the President’s fundraiser luncheon in San Francisco, I could not believe it. Thoroughly excited, I pulled out my suit, ironed my favorite tie, and planned the quickest bus route to San Francisco’s W Hotel.

I met up with a few other volunteers at the W where we registered patrons alongside the hotel staff. After ushering in the final guests, we entered the darkened dining room to join the crowd.

Preventing The Next BP Oil Spill With Government-Funded Innovation

The Department of Energy is doling out money to some high-tech oil drilling projects. If we’re going to be drilling, we might as well invest time and money in making it as safe as possible.

The Department of Energy recently announced that it is handing out $9.6 million to six projects that aim to make deep water drilling both less risky and more environmentally sound. Some may argue that this is an impossible task, but the projects seem promising.

American Made Camry's headed for Korea

Toyota announced today it will export Camry sedans from Kentucky and Indiana to South Korea, making it the sixth U.S.-built vehicle the Japanese automaker exports. About 7,000 Camry sedans will ship from assembly plants in Georgetown, Ky., and Lafayette, Ind., next year, Toyota says, with shipments arriving in Korea in January.

The move comes on the heels of the U.S.-Korean Free Trade Agreement, which reduced auto tariffs and streamlined environmental and safety

Homelessness Among Veterans Drops by 12 Percent

WASHINGTON (AP) — Homelessness among the nation's veterans declined by about 12 percent during a one-year period ending January 2011, the Obama administration says.

Officials said the drop is a sign of progress and that the administration is on track for reaching President Barack Obama's goal of eliminating homelessness among veterans by 2015.

In all, there are nearly 67,500 homeless veterans, according to a survey that thousands of communities around the country help to administer each January. More than 76,000 homeless vets were counted in the prior year's survey.
