After losing fed loan, military solar project a go

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A $1 billion solar energy project that lost a federal loan in the wake of the Solyndra bankruptcy and related investigations is back on track to nearly double the number of panels on residential rooftops in the U.S.

San Mateo, Calif.-based SolarCity said Wednesday that it had reached a deal with Bank of America Corp.'s Merrill Lynch unit for financing the five-year project called SolarStrong. The venture would put shimmering solar panels on 120,000 military houses in dozens of states.

Hiring Vets Is Smart Business

Today is a historic day for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. When President Obama signs the VOW to Hire Heroes Act into law, an entire generation of new vets will be provided much-needed practical support to transition from combat to careers.  As an Iraq vet I am privileged to lead the membership team at Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), the country’s first and largest nonpartisan organization committed to our newest veterans. And I speak for all of us when I thank the lawmakers who worked so hard together, putting aside party, to get this bill passed. We also thank the President for his leadership on the issue - for acting so quickly on this legislation and for bringing national attention to the veterans’ unemployment crisis.

Fighting For the Future of Education

As volunteers from from Ashtabula to Cincinnati knock on doors and call their neighbors to vote on No on Issue 2, it’s important to know why they're there, stepping up to take some ownership of this country's future.

Young and old, Issue 2 affects every Buckeye. No one puts that into greater focus than Maggie F.
Maggie has been an active volunteer with OFA for 3 years. This 17 year old lives in Ohio, where she manages to squeeze being a Fall Fellow into her busy schedule. She helped Ohio collect over 318,000 signatures to defeat HB-194 and has joined the fight to get folks to vote No on Issue 2.
