Americans more confident about the economy

Americans' confidence in the economy in November bounced back to its highest level since July, the latest sign that consumers are beginning to feel more cheerful about spending during the holiday shopping season.

The Conference Board, a private research firm, says Tuesday that its Consumer Confidence Index rose 15 points to 56.0. That's up from a revised 40.9 in October — the lowest level since the recession — and the biggest jump since the 59.2 reading in July. The November number is encouraging, but far below the reading of 90, which indicates an economy on solid footing.

Consumer agency logs 5,000 credit card complaints in first months

In its first three months of operation, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau got more than 5,000 complaints about credit cards, the federal agency said in a report.

"When consumers contact us, we get a snapshot of how the consumer finance markets are working," said Raj Date, the special Treasury Department advisor who is running the bureau until the Senate confirms a director.

"We are hiring, and hiring and hiring," said Karsten Vagner, director of people at ZocDoc.

One year ago, ZocDoc had 36 employees, and now the firm has 150 employees. "That is just the beginning. I hope that this time next year we are closer to 400 or 500 people," he said.

ZocDoc launched just about four years ago as a service to help New Yorkers connect with dentists. The company now connects patients with primary care physicians, dermatologists, psychiatrists, and other doctors in major metropolitan cities from coast to coast.
