How We Punish Big Banks and Help Our Communities

People are taking it to the streets. Occupy Wall Street has unleashed massive frustration and anger about the terrible behavior of the big banks.

Already, people are starting to take their money out of the big banks and move them into member-owned credit unions. In fact, if you haven’t closed your account already, on Nov 5 Rebuild the Dream will participate in a nationwide action, calling on Americans to “Move Your Money”
out of the big banks. People are also taking action online. More than 220,000 people have signed a petition telling Bank of America to stop instituting a $5 debit card fee.

We now know that, when one follows recommendations from the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) on how to measure poverty more comprehensively, seven of ARRA’s provisions kept more than 6 million Americans above the NAS poverty line – that is, out of poverty – in 2009.

California has 1 in 4 U.S. solar energy jobs, study says

One in every four solar energy jobs in America is held by a Californian, and growth in the clean-tech industry is burgeoning nationwide, a new study said. California's solar jobs tally was more than four times greater than runner-up Colorado, which had 6,186 solar jobs.

In August, California had an estimated 25,575 solar-related jobs out of 100,237 for all 50 states, according to the National Solar Jobs Census 2011. The census is scheduled for release Monday by the Solar Foundation, a research and education organization in Washington.
