In February of this year my husband and I drove to San Francisco to participate in a protest rally in support of the Wisconsin teachers. We had not protested since the Vietnam War. At that rally I carried a sign that said
"Proud to Teach" SRJC retraining California workers.
On Saturday I had the privilege of participating in the Occupy Santa Rosa Rally that drew 3,000 to City Hall. As I greeted speakers, passed out flyers, and worked to keep marchers on the sidewalk, I had no time to carry a sign, but the message in my heart was
"Proud to Protest".
My journey from "apathetic" Democrat to Council Organizer for Sonoma County MoveOn has been intense, invigorating and at times frustrating and exhausting. Every week I would ask myself "Why am I doing this? Will it make a difference?"
Yesterday I received my answer, a resounding YES. During the rally I felt hopeful, powerful, and profoundly grateful to be a member of this community.
