A New Plan To Mutate HIV Out Of Existence

Instead of simply blocking HIV from replicating, a new drug in trial stages causes it to mutate. If it works, it could eventually fully eliminate HIV in people who have the disease, freeing them from a lifetime of drugs. Koronis Pharmaceuticals, a Seattle-based biotech company, has a potential solution to the HIV epidemic with KP-1461, a new kind of drug that essentially mutates HIV into oblivion. If it works, patients could eventually get off the drug altogether and remain HIV-free.

Green Sports Alliance: Go Green Or Go Home

The Philadelpha Eagles, like an increasing number of teams, know that sports can  be about change, in the least indulgent sense. Teams stand for something larger, and so, the thinking goes, should the iconic buildings they inhabit. This month, the Eagles expect 100% of their stadium's energy to come from renewable resources (to say nothing of Michael Vick's resurgent career). The savings in Philly are their own reward--an estimated $60 million over the next two decades.

Fast food joints are increasingly touting fresh veggies, 'real' ingredients

Burger King is advertising fresh vegetables and introducing oatmeal, McDonald’s is touting "real fruit" smoothies and Wendy’s is promoting “natural” lemonade and summer salads.

Spurred in part by the success of restaurants like Subway and Chipotle, who have found a winning formula in offering fresh, made-to-order items, fast-food chains better known for their greasy fries and gut-busting burgers are increasingly paying attention to avocado slices and apple wedges.
