Would You Like Some Solar With That? Ford To Sell Panels Along With The Electric Focus

Ford has opted to sell SunPower's rooftop solar panels along with the all-electric Focus, which will be released later this year.
"What was really attractive to Ford was that [SunPower] was willing to roll up their sleeves and find a way to design a system for the automotive market. We think that EV customers are likely to be solar customers, and that solar customers are likely to be EV customers," says Mike Tinskey, Ford's manager of vehicle electrification and infrastructure.
The company is making the process ultra-simple for prospective vehicle owners, who can elect to buy SunPower's 2.5 kW array and an EV charger (to be installed by Best Buy's Geek Squad) at Ford dealerships at the same time as they buy their car. Once they make the purchase, a pre-packaged array will be delivered to their home and a SunPower installer will set up the system on the roof.

Cape Cod Organic Farm now harvesting solar power

Small2In Barnstable, the Cape Cod Organic Farm recently flipped the switch on a new homegrown product: solar energy. This organic farm is now home to a 9.84 kW solar array that will power the electricity needs of the entire farm with clean, renewable electricity. The Cape Cod Organic Farm is a diverse vegetable and small poultry operation that is both a CSA (consumer supported agriculture) and a farm stand. Tim Friary manages the 12.5 acre business and has been farming in Massachusetts for over 15 years. When we last visited the site, Tim told us that he was happy with the solar installation and was already enjoying watching the numbers on the meter rise as the solar energy they collected turned into electricity.

Nevada receives $10M grant to help boost home health

AP) — More Nevadans in nursing homes will have an opportunity for home or group-home care arrangements, thanks to a $10 million federal grant.

Betsy Aiello, deputy administrator for the Division of Health Care Policy and Financing, said the goal is to use the money to transition 524 people out of long-term care facilities and into more home-based settings.
“The health care reform bill reauthorized ability to get more grants for this,” Aiello said Friday. “This is a pretty good dollar grant for us.”
