The Department of Workforce Services began partnering with the Arkansas Alliance of Boys & Girls Club in August 2010 to provide prevention and intervention services for needy youth and their families.
The pilot program is available at each of the 58 Boys & Girls Club facilities around the state and provides support to children ages 6 to 18 in an effort to reduce alcohol, drug and cigarette use, improve health, and promote the importance of education. To fund the initiative, DWS used $2 million in American Recovery & Reinvestment Act funding received by the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.
