L.A. Hits 20% Renewable Energy Goal

Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa made a commitment in 2005 to increase the portion of his city's renewable energy use from 5 to 20 percent by 2010. He announced this week the achievement of that goal after the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power calculated its 2010 renewable energy portfolio.

"We went from worst to first and quadrupled our renewable energy portfolio in a few short years, while also keeping our rates lower than other major utilities," Villaraigosa notes.

"Voices of Reform in Egypt" : Aliaa

Aliaa Ashraf, 23, is obsessed with the Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho. His best-selling book "The Alchemist" is one of her favorites. "The main character sold everything and went out to find a treasure in the pyramids," Aliaa said. "He says it's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting." The book's premise has hit home with Aliaa. "Egypt hasn't changed in 30 years. We are suffocating and trapped. We want to just be able to live," she said.
