US Retail Sales climb for 6th straight month

Retail sales and industrial production both rose in December, indicating that the U.S. economic recovery is picking up as the new year begins. Purchases climbed 0.6 percent, capping the biggest annual increase in more than a decade, Commerce Department figures showed today in Washington. Output at factories, mines and utilities increased 0.8 percent, the most in five months, according to data from the Federal Reserve.

Retirees Lend A Hand To Refugees In Fargo, N.D.

Riverview Place, a retirement home and assisted-living facility in Fargo, N.D. provides mentors and English language tutors for refugees from Bosnia and northern Iraq.  When the refugees began  arriving arriving in Fargo by the hundreds, they needed lots of help, and Bonnie Peters felt she had just the answer.
