Kokomo - Saved by Stimulus and Teamwork

In 2008 when Chrysler declared bankrupcy, many Kokomo resident thought the town might just disappear. Today, thanks in large part to the auto bailout and the town working as a team, to encourge small business growth, the unemployment rate has gone from 20% to 12%.

The Downtown area is reviatalized and the auto industry is back. Chrysler and Delphi, which have invested heavily in Kokomo since receiving federal help. Delphi announced a $28 million investment and Chrysler has promised more than $300 million to retool one of its transmission plants.

Man Skips Coffee Donates Daily

It’s been more than 230 days since Carlo Garcia bought a cup of coffee. That’s because in April, the Chicago resident realized that he could change lives and inspire others to do the same — all for the price of his morning joe.

“One day this idea popped into my head: How hard would it be to give back to charity every day? What’s stopping us from doing that?” said Garcia, who catalogs his daily donations on his blog, Living Philanthropic.
