Volunteers Help Seniors Age in Their Homes

Irene Zola started Morningside Village in 2009, an initiative that pairs the elderly in her neighborhood with local volunteers who assist them with their day-to-day needs."Sometimes it'll be a stroll, or shopping or helping them pay their bills. We're their daughters and sons helping them to manage their home life," said Zola, 64.

Health Care Law Helps States Control Rates

The Affordable Care Act imposes new rules on insurance companies. When a insurance provider wants to raise rates by 10% or more, they must publicly justify the increase and gain the approval of the state insurance commissioner. In some states like, Washington and Maine, all new insurance premium rates, regardless of the amount, need to be approved by the state insurance commissioner’s office.

I encourage you to watch the White House Whiteboard Presentation that explains the law in more detail.
