Stimulus: Grand Canyon Park Upgrades

Grand Canyon National Park has received nearly $14 million in Recovery funds to make a myriad of repairs to their park facilities. This includes $550,000 to reconstruct the popular South Kaibab Trail.    Reconstruction will include trail resurfacing; rebuilding steps; stabilizing and preventative maintenance treatments to retaining walls including replacing those that have been lost to floods,
slides, or erosion; and repairing and aligning damaged water features.

Other stimulus-funded projects at the park aim to make employee housing more energy efficient, preserve roads, lessen emissions with new shuttle buses, provide housing for seasonal employees and upgrade the historic Grand Canyon depot.

Child Driven Education - a TED talk

Sugata Mitra, an Indian physicist who, a decade ago, began to install public "hole in the wall" computers in the streets of Indian slums. He then sat back and watched how quickly the impoverished kids learned to use the technology. The experiment, which has now gone global, inspired the book that inspired the film "Slumdog Millionaire," in which a boy from the slums improbably learns enough to win a TV quiz show.
