Although the news on Health Care Repeal is discouraging, it gives us a chance to explain the bill, support it and make the republicans look really bad. Repealing the bill will raise the deficit, and kill jobs in the Health Care field.

Obama Weekly Address: Auto Bailout Update

Key quote from President Obama:
Just this week we received some encouraging news. Since General Motors emerged from bankruptcy, the auto industry has actually added 45,000 jobs the strongest growth in a decade. And Chrysler announced an operating profit in the first three months of this year. This is the first time Chrysler has reported a profit since the beginning of the economic crisis. Whats more, GM announced that it paid back its loans to taxpayers with interest, fully five years ahead of schedule. It wont be too long before the stock the Treasury is holding in GM can be sold, helping to reimburse the American people for their investment.

GM, Obama Prove Cynics Wrong

President Obama speaks out on the Auto Industry Bailout and the Small Business Jobs bill.

Of course, if some folks had their way, none of this would be happening at all. This plant might not exist.

There were leaders of the "just say no" crowd in Washington who argued that standing by the auto industry would guarantee failure. One called it "the worst investment you could possibly make." They said we should just walk away and let these jobs go.

Today, the men and women in this plant are proving these cynics wrong. Since GM and Chrysler emerged from bankruptcy, our auto industry has added 55,000 jobs -- the strongest period of job growth in more than ten years. For the first time since 2004, all three American automakers are operating at a profit. Sales have begun to rebound. And plants like this that wouldn't have existed if all of us didn't act are now operating maximum capacity.

People with Disabilities and the Affordable Care Act

If you’re living with a disability, private health insurance may be hard to come by. Even if you can afford to buy it, it probably doesn’t cover all of your needs. Worrying about where to get coverage and the cost of your care is the last thing you want to do. The Affordable Care Act is expanding your options for health insurance and making them more affordable.

Over 95% of employers with more than 50 employees offer health insurance.  But since 2000, employer premiums have doubled. When employers pay more for insurance, they have less money to invest in the company and may be forced to pay lower wages or shift health care costs to their employees. The economic impact of America’s uninsured is also significant, costing our nation between $76 billion and $152 billion per year in lost productivity.
