Stimulus: Funds Still Making Impact on Construction Industry in Arkansas

The Recovery.Arkansas.gov website lists more than 2,000 American Recovery & Reinvestment Act projects. A good many of those are construction projects, from highway to education to water treatment plants, with highway infrastructure dominating the construction-related category.

In August, Gov. Mike Beebe attended a groundbreaking for a $21 million student life complex at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences & the Arts in Hot Springs. Of that $21 million, $6 million is ARRA money.

Stimulus: GE Bringing Manufacturing Back to America

General Electric is investing $600 million in its Appliance Park facility in Louisville, Kentucky to produce energy efficient washers and dryers. GE has been granted a $24.8 million Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credit from the U.S. Department of the Treasury through the Economic Recovery Act.

GE expects this investment to create 430 new manufacturing and engineering jobs in Louisville starting in 2012. This is in addition to the company's earlier decision to make energy-efficient water heaters in Louisville, for which GE moved 400 jobs from its production line in China back to Louisville.
