U.S. Economy: Spending Rises, Jobless Claims Decline

Americans increased spending for a fifth month in October and filed the fewest unemployment claims in more than two years last week, pointing to strength in the largest part of the economy as the fourth quarter began.

Georgia-Pacific Pledges to Protect Southern Forests

Georgia-Pacific, one of the nation’s largest producers of wood and paper products -- maker of everything from Brawny paper towels to Dixie napkins -- said today that it will avoid timber from endangered forests and pine plantations that push out natural hardwoods.
