Cool School Challenge - Make your School Energy Efficent

Redmond High School is the second-largest source of carbon pollution in town, trailing only the Microsoft campus. That fact is not lost on students in the Independent Science Research course, who are breaking down the factors that contribute to the school's carbon footprint and overall environmental impact, devising detailed plans to reduce that impact, and putting those plans into action.

The research is part of a Cool School Challenge a program that has been adopted by more than 70 schools as far away as Dubai, and teachers from at least 150 other schools have attended workshops that prepare them to implement the program on their own.

Stimulus: Energy Efficient Schools in New Mexico

Silver City Consolidated Schools in New Mexico received $357,500 in federal grants to install a solar hot water heating system and other energy-saving features. The solar equipment supplies almost all of the hot-water needs of the high school campus, including the kitchen, showers, bathrooms, and janitorial needs.
