The U.S. Energy Department on Wednesday awarded the city a $25 million economic-stimulus grant to create jobs and make buildings greener along a 10-mile stretch of the light rail.
The grant will leverage at least $190 million of funding from banks, private businesses and public partners.
The goal over the next six years is to eliminate carbon emissions by 50,000 metric tons per year by making 3,500 homes and 30 million square feet of office and industrial space more energy efficient.
